We have all heard the myths that Tuesday is the best day to book airfare, Wednesday is the best day to fly, and January is the cheapest month to travel. These travel hacks are all up for debate, and can vary. According to Booking.com, you can count on getting the best hotel values by picking the right destination at the time of year.
The reason for such large price dips varies, in some places you will see hotel deals after a big national holiday, other reasons may be that hotels are trying to draw in new customers and some are simply just trying to fill rooms during slower seasons. Whatever the reason may be use it to your advantage to plan your next trip!

January: Los Angeles, Melbourne
Los Angeles: You can save 33 percent on hotels in the city of angels this month, when the nightly average rate for four-star properties dips down to $212—the lowest all year.
Melbourne: When you visit Melbourne in January you can take advantage of low rates between the Christmas rush and the Australian Open. The average rooms go for $150 in peak season which is already a good deal, but going in January means you can book a great place to stay for roughly $112 per night.
February: Honolulu, Hong Kong
Hawaii: Is the priciest over New Year’s & January, but come Valentine’s Day you will find good prices up to 40 percent dips in hotel rates. To maximize your savings make your way to the island in the first week of the month, when values are at their very best.
Hong Kong: February is peak season for shoppers where you will be able to find excellent sales as well as cheap hotel deals, which will drop as low as $125 for a four-star spot this month.
March: Arizona, Buenos Aires
Flagstaff, Arizona: Travel in the first week of March, you can pay well under $100 for a comfortable hotel.
Buenos Aires: It’s not very warm during this time of year but the springtime temperature in the U.S. compares to the temperate in Buenos Aires in March which makes it a perfect time to explore. You can find four-star accommodations for as little as $55, so get ready to book your next adventure.
April: Chicago, Copenhagen
Chicago: This time of year hotel rates dip to 54 percent cheaper than peak season prices, according Booking.com.
Copenhagen: May through October is Copenhagen’s busy tourist season, but if you visit this quaint city in April and you’ll save up to 38 percent on your room, without dealing and you will bypass Scandinavia’s short days and cold winter temperatures.
May: Fort Lauderdale, Florida, London
Fort Lauderdale, Florida: During this time of year you will miss the spring break crowd and the crazy humidity. You will find hotel prices for around $162 per night.
London: During this time of year you can find great deals if you go after May Day, the average nightly rate for the week that follows is around $216.
June: San Antonio, Texas, Beijing
San Antonio, Texas: Is 49 percent cheaper than Austin during this time of year (average rates are about $164 for a four star spot) and you’re still just an hour away from Austin if you want to visit during your stay!
Beijing: In June the weather is mild and there aren’t any domestic holidays, which is great for travelers because it means saving money honey! If you go during this time of year you can expect to pay under $80 a night for your four-star hotel.
July: Boston, Sydney
Boston: In July you can save around $120 per night on hotels if you come for Fourth of July instead of Columbus Day—and the weather will be a lot nicer.
Sydney: If you go to Sydney during the middle of summer you will find savings at arounf 44 percent on peak season hotel prices according to Booking.com’s data, and the temperatures stay in the upper 60s.
August: New York City, Berlin
New York: Before you book a hotel during this time make sure it has air-conditioning, summer in New York City can be HOT. If you stay during the last week of the month you will find the best discounts on accommodations.
Berlin: Here you will find good hotel deals year-round (check out the Hotel Zoo, they have spacious and affordable suites). But if you travel here in August you will save the most cash on hotels, with rates around $100.
September: Orlando, Rome
Orlando: Once school’s in session prices become a lot lower, you will be able to save 40 percent on high season hotel prices (about $130 a night for decent rooms).
Rome: Italy is always a good choice, but September in Rome is the best. Many Europeans take time off in August, so in September the city is back to its normal bustle. You will be able to find rates at $131 per night for four-star hotels.
October: New Orleans, Cape Town
New Orleans: The last week of the month is the cheapest time of year to visit, and hotel rates lower to $202 on average per night, which is 34 percent less than the week of Mardi Gras, Booking.com’s study found.
Cape Town: If you travel here in October the hotels will cost you no more than $80 on average.
November: San Francisco, Rio de Janiero
San Francisco: The week before Thanksgiving is the cheapest time to visit SF, hotels average rates are $202 per night, which is a savings of arounf 50 percent.
Rio de Janiero: In November the temperatures are just right, with highs in the low 80s so it’s the perfect time to lay on the beach and relax. The most expensive season here is late December, when prices are 37 percent higher.
December: Las Vegas, Frankfurt
Las Vegas: Anyone who know me knows I am not a huge fan of Vegas but I know it is others cup of tea, so during December you will find the lowest hotel rates with an average price of $84, (up to 60 percent off – especially if you travel on the third week of the month.
Frankfurt: I have been to Frankfurt in December it is a beautiful time to visit but it’s cold so come prepared, checking out the Christmas markets and drinking glühwein is a must! During this time you will also find the cheapest hotels with rates 56 percent cheaper than during peak season, with four-stay hotels going for about $112 per night.
