The Wheel of Life is an amazing tool to begin your journey towards living your best life. Life is all about balance. Too much of one thing can lead to too little in other important areas of your life. It will allow you to be able to reflect and gain some insight into the balanced and unbalanced areas of your life.
EVALUATE YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW
No matter where we are in our lives right now, we all have areas of our life that we could improve – and in many cases, different amounts of improvement. Think about your relationship, for instance. Are you in a peak state of your relationship, are you fully connected and committed? If not, whats going on? What is working / not working in your relationship now? What about your personal health, are you on the right track to optimal health? What about your career? Does your job feel like a job or does it feel like it has purpose and meaning?
ACHIEVE BALANCE IN ALL AREAS OF YOUR LIFE
The Wheel of Life is a way to take a good, hard look at each facet of your life, and rate its relative quality level, so you can uncover which areas need more attention than others. Consider each area like a spoke of a wheel: When one of the spokes is shorter than the others, it can throw the whole thing off balance. By getting this “helicopter” view of your life, you can identify where you are excelling and where there is room for improvement – to discover where the gaps are between where you are today and where you want to be.

Too many people are caught up in the daily grind, just going through the motions – and not designing a life on purpose. But to be able to design a life on purpose, you must first see where you are now to take you to where you want to go.
THE WHEEL OF LIFE
The eight sections in the Wheel of Life represent several different areas of your life. The exercise measures your level of satisfaction in these areas on the day you work through this. It is not a picture of how it has been in the past or what you want it to look like in the future. It is a snapshot taken in the moment. On the wheel below, rate your level of satisfaction from 1-10 in the eight areas of your life. A score of 1 would indicate that you are not spending any time on this part of your life and you’re absolutely unsatisfied with how you’re feeling in this area currently, and a score of 10 would indicate that you are spending a lot of time on this part of your life and you’re absolutely satisfied with how this area of your life is right now.
If you are uncertain regarding how to rate your sense of satisfaction with the categories, here are some possible questions regarding the Wheel of Life categories to assist you.
Is my job rewarding?
Does it reflect my values?
Do I have opportunity for advancement?
Do I earn enough and live within my means?
Do I save enough?
Am I planning for financial freedom?
Am I generally fit and well?
Do I eat healthily?
Do I exercise regularly?
Do I have/want a soul mate?
Do we share values and intimacy?
Am I nurturing the relationship we have with each other?
Friends and Family
Do I have/want a close circle of friends?
Do I spend enough time with family and friends?
Do I value the relationship we have with each other?
Am I continually learning new things?
Do I enjoy new opportunities for growth?
Are the things I do growing me as a person?
Fun and Recreation
Do I have fun often?
Do I know how to relax?
Do I enjoy sports or have hobbies?
Do I like the area in which I live?
Is my home comfortable, tidy and warm?
Do I keep my appearance smart?
Is my car serviced and reliable?
Understanding Your Scores
If you have scores of 8 to 10 for any of the categories, congrats to you! You are highly satisfied in these particular areas. It’s important you maintain what you are doing to ensure you remain satisfied in this area, however don’t overlook that there may be areas for improvement. This is important to ensure you are not limiting your potential for even further growth and satisfaction in this area.
If you have scores of 5 to 7 for any of the categories, you are reasonably satisfied in this particular area but there are opportunities to explore how you can move these areas up the scale.
If you have scores of 0 to 4 for any of the categories, you are not very satisfied in this particular area and you will need to explore ways you can enhance your satisfaction in these categories. Don’t be discouraged by the low numbers look at it as an opportunity for personal growth and development!
The categories on the wheel are interrelated and action in one area is likely to affect other areas so, where to start, requires some thought and consideration. If you score low in a few areas but the rest of the areas you score higher numbers, focus on the area for improvement first.
